Christina María Aguilera is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. Born in Staten Island, New York and raised in Wexford, Pennsylvania, she made her first publicity appearances on television shows as a child, including on Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club. In 1998, Aguilera signed a contract with RCA Records after recording "Reflection" for Mulan. A year later, Aguilera debuted her self-titled debut studio album, which gained international success and spawned three number-one hits, "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants" and "Come On Over Baby". Her two next studio albums, Mi Reflejo and My Kind of Christmas, both achieved moderate success worldwide. Displeased with her lack of input, Aguilera parted ways with her management and assumed creative control for her fourth album, Stripped, which yielded two worldwide chart toppers, "Dirrty" and "Beautiful". After collaborating with several artists, Aguilera began to bring the 1930s and 1940s blues, soul and jazz influences to her fifth album, Back to Basics. Three top-ten singles were released from it, "Ain't No Other Man", "Hurt" and "Candyman". She continued to release her sixth studio album, Bionic, in 2010, which incorporates elements from electronic and electropop and gained little impact on charts worldwide. That same year, Aguilera made her acting breakthrough on Burlesque with Cher. From 2011, Aguilera served as a judge on US television singing contest The Voice for three seasons until late 2012, when she released her seventh studio album Lotus, which failed to generate sales. In 2013, Aguilera joined the fifth season of The Voice again.
